★★★★☆Synopsis
Victoria Romanov is going to be my wife. Even if she doesn't know it yet. Her father betrayed me. So I'll use her as the stepping stone to my throne. She's so untouched, so naive... It's almost a shame I have to ruin her. At first, she fights me. Claws at the cage I've locked her in. I do everything to break my enemy's daughter. But I can see the way she loves it... Under her feisty demeanor, her innate submission calls out to the darkness in me, begging to be taken, used, and stripped of control. And soon enough, I begin to crave her. My wife was always meant to be just a pawn in this game. But I'm starting to realize she's becoming queen... And she might just be my downfall.
The protagonists
VICTORIA ROMANOV
THE TRAITOR'S DAUGHTER
The daughter of the man who betrayed Wolf. She enters this marriage as someone else's pawn, but it quickly becomes clear that Victoria is not easy to break — or to ignore.
WOLFGANG RYKOV
THE OBSESSED HEIR
Bratva heir, cold and calculated. He kidnaps Victoria on her birthday with a clear plan: use her. What he didn't account for is that she was going to be his downfall.
My review
Darkest Craving was my first book by Rhea Harp, and she did not disappoint. I loved both characters and the way the story develops: the dynamic between Victoria and Wolf is intense from the very first chapter, and the climax is very well executed. What I would have liked is for the author to dig a little deeper into certain aspects of Wolf — there are dimensions of his story that get mentioned but never fully developed, and there was real potential there for something even stronger. But overall it's a good book, entertaining and very spicy, and I'll definitely be reading the second one and whatever she publishes next.
