The Legal Briefs · Book 2
Emma Chase
★★★★★Synopsis
Jake Becker is a defense attorney in Washington DC with a reputation for being cold, callous and intimidating, which suits him perfectly. He does not do relationships, he does not do complications and he has no interest in being anyone's Prince Charming. All of that comes apart the day a kid tries to rob him and he decides, instead of calling the police, to walk the boy home. That is how he meets Chelsea McQuaid, a woman who overnight was left in charge of her six orphaned nieces and nephews and is trying to hold up a house that keeps threatening to collapse on her. Chelsea tries to act tough and she is not, and Jake discovers that defending someone happens to be the one thing he knows how to do well. Between Mommy and Me classes, concerts, emergency rooms and meetings in the principal's office, the attorney who commits to nothing ends up in over his head with a family he never asked for.
The protagonists
Jake Becker
Defense attorney
A successful defense attorney in Washington DC with a reputation for being cold, callous and intimidating, and very comfortable with that reputation. He does not do relationships, he does not do complications and he only cares about himself and his friends. All of that turns upside down when a kid tries to pick his pocket and he decides to walk him home.
Chelsea McQuaid
Guardian of her six nieces and nephews
Overnight she went from planning grad school to being the legal guardian of her six nieces and nephews, after her brother and sister in law died. She tries to be tough so she can hold everyone together, even though underneath it she is exhausted and alone. She is sweet, giving and very easy to love, and she needs someone to defend her for once.
My review
Today on do not judge a book by its cover, here come Jake and Chelsea to steal our hearts.
I absolutely loved this book, I read it in one sitting and ended up staying up all night on a weekday, but I just could not put it down.
The book is told only from Jake's point of view, and I think it is the second book I have read where we only get the male lead's POV. The storytelling is so good that I never once needed Chelsea's POV.
Jake is a ladies man, a successful attorney who only cares about himself and his friends, but one day his life gets turned upside down when he runs into a kid and decides to walk him home, and that is when he meets Chelsea and the six nieces and nephews she has in her care. Jake, who does not want to commit to anything or anyone, cannot stop thinking about her and without realizing it he starts getting involved with this family.
I loved this story, I laughed so much and I feel like the plot unfolds so well. Everything made sense to me.
Who is this for?
For anyone who wants a playboy who falls for a whole family and not just for the girl
For readers who enjoy a book told entirely from the male POV, with a lot of humor
For anyone looking for an addictive, sweet and funny read you can finish in one sitting
